“June is the sixth month of the year. and is named for the Roman goddess Juno – the wife of Jupiter (also known as Hera to the Greek mythologist). Among her attributes, she is queen of heaven (approximating Frigg in Norse Mythology), and is the light counterpoint to Janus – the ruler of the New Year season.

Juno rules at the high point of year, when there is maximum light and minimum darkness. On about June 21, the northern Summer Solstice (Midsommar) will occur. Some Native American tribes call it the Hot or Strawberry Moon.

According to tradition, unmarried girls who sleep with wild flowers under their pillow on Midsommar’s Eve will dream of the man they will marry. European folklore tells us that: good weather in ‘Flaming June’ is required if there is to be a good harvest. Bats flying on a June evening are a sign of hot, dry weather. If swallows are fly near the ground in June, it’s a sign of coming rain.”

“Two young guys soliciting something loudly knocking on my front door at 8 PM while my wife’s trying to put our son to bed. I shooed them off from the window without even bothering to open the front door. Gonna have to use that little dismissive maneuver again.”
